Tempier honoured for his service
Our newest learning space will be known as The Tempier Building, named in honour of Fr Henri Tempier (1788–1870), a foundational figure in the story of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
Tempier was the first companion of St Eugene de Mazenod, joining him in 1815 as they began a mission to serve those most in need in southern France. While St Eugene was a visionary leader, Tempier brought steadiness, wisdom, and deep faith. Together, they formed a partnership grounded in trust, unity, and a shared commitment to service. Their collaboration laid the foundations of what would become the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
Tempier remained a constant source of support for St Eugene throughout his life, known for his practical leadership and unwavering loyalty. His quiet strength helped sustain and grow the early congregation during both its challenges and its expansion.
Naming this building after Tempier continues our tradition of honouring the rich story of our Oblate heritage, following on from The Zinelli Building. It reminds us that great missions are not carried by one person alone, but through relationships, shared purpose, and faithful service.
In Tempier, we celebrate not only a man, but the spirit of partnership that continues to shape our community.
